This note, in Helen Manchester's hand, shows there were active adult social activities at the W.A.S. bowling alley soon after the base was opened to dependent families. Sadly, Helen passed away on February 12, 2005. She was predeceased by her husband Herb, who passed away in April 1983. Their son, Thom wrote of the bowling alley that you had to clear the deck by hand and load the pins into the setter, and pull down on the bar to set the pins. "We were about 10 or 11 yrs old and talked the Japanese workers into letting us bowl for free, then they could bowl while we'd set for them. Just another happy memory of Wakkanai."
